There’s a common question, mainly prominent in the SEO world.
“How long should my article be?”
Although too short content may be a problem in SEO, at some times, i.e 150 words on your money-sites homepage. In other areas, for example blogs like this one, the length of your content doesn’t matter.
The one thing you need to be concerned with when writing
That is to get your point across and provide value to the reader.
Forcing an article to 500 words because “that’s the minimum” is pointless and I’d even say stupid.
Why does it matter, whether you get you get your point across in 200 words, 700 or even 2000+? The only difference is the time your reader is going to be investing in the post.
You might be saying that having longer content will help you in search engines, because Google loves long and informative pages, but you most likely also know how much Google loves backlinks and social shares.
What do you think your readers will be more likely to share, be that on Facebook or on their own blog: a concise post with value VS 700 words of repeating the same stuff?
What do you feel is more powerful when YOU read something? Those 200 words that had a major impact on you, or a long and boring essay?
Just say what you have to say
Don’t look at that word count, don’t scroll up to see how much you’ve already written..
Write down the point, lesson, principle or whatever it is you’re trying to get through to your reader, elaborate and hit publish.
It really is as simple as that.
