Recently I attended a debating club at a local university and the topic we were given was the legalization of doping/performance enhancing drugs. One of the key points that kept coming up was the point of sports, which almost everyone considered to be “to give a show” for the people – I disagree.
In this post, I’ll try to explain why I’m so fascinated with bodybuilding/lifting weights and how it has helped me with internet marketing (and in general).
Obviously, lifting weights (as any other sport) has a ton of different benefits, the majority of them have little or nothing to do with internet marketing, such as:
- Better health in general
- Stronger CNS (central nervous system)
- Higher VO2 max
- Better joint flexibility
- Higher bone density
- Improved stability and balance
- Relieved stress
- Lower risk of diabetes
- Prevent back pain
- Better appearance
- Higher self-esteem
- And on and on and on…
That doesn’t really even start with all of the health benefits. These are only the ones that instantly came to my mind from past research and seemed significant.
I’m not going to talk about ANY of them today.. Here’s what I want to talk about.
Your Mental Strength
The health benefits are obviously important, very important. However, when it comes to internet marketing, all that’ll do is make sure you’re actually alive and capable of working.
But the other benefits.. Oh wow.
Changes Your Perspective
All of the work we do in IM is ridiculously easy – physically. The hardest part of our days tends to be getting up for another cup of coffee. The rest is purely mental work.
Now imagine taking a two hour break from all that mental work and focus, and heading to the gym. Not only are you giving your brain two hours of rest to replenish your creative juices, you’re making your work look like a joke.
Let’s say those two hours were spent training your legs and you did squats and deadlifts. You basically put another you, on top of you, and then squatted X times.. Then you took 100+ KG from the floor and lifted it to your waist, several times.
Now go back to your desk and start working.. It’s a piece of cake after that. What’s writing 700 words of content or answering some emails after going through what you just did? Nothing.
Gives You a “Reset” & Increased Productivity
When you walk out of the gym after an hour or two of hard work, hit the showers and go home.. You feel like a brand new person.
It gives you a fresh start, just like waking up to a new day or taking a shower and shaving.
The world is before you and the opportunities are endless, plus everything seems much easier.
You feel more productive than ever and get much much more done, even if you spent the previous 8 hours working, too.
